American Red Cross volunteers and staff from throughout Upstate New York will be attending a Disaster Institute this weekend at the New York State Preparedness Training Center, located at 5900 Airport Road in the Oneida County community of Oriskany.
The Western and Central New York Region, and the Eastern New York Region are jointly operating the three-day series of workshops, training sessions and exercises. The schedule, running from Friday, June 24, to Sunday, June 26, offers a menu of introductory and advanced education opportunities for staff and volunteers who respond to small and large scale disasters.
The class docket includes Sheltering Fundamentals, Mass Care Management, Service Delivery and even driving lessons and a road test for prospective operators of Emergency Response Vehicles.
The Western and Central New York Region is comprised of 26 counties serving about 4 million residents. The Eastern New York Region serves a population of more than 2.5 million people across 24 counties.
