Gallery Talk: Mansion House Architecture: The Lost Drawings, August 27th, 3pm
Speaker: Dr. Anthony Wonderley
Recently discovered architectural drawings provide new information about how the Mansion House was built, and how it reflected and encouraged the Oneida Community’s distinctive way of life. Featured graphics of the Mansion House central building (1862) and two additions (1869, 1878) illuminate the visions of their architects for the first time. They also show how the original designs were altered by the client Community and then further changed in response to practical use and construction requirements. New architectural information clarifies how the pragmatic communards ended up with fashionable structures that followed the Italian Villa, Second Empire, and High Victorian Gothic styles. The presentation coincides with the exhibit of newly conserved architectural drawings.

  1. Greetings,
I am a former resident of Sherrill (class of ’57), and was a good friend of Pat Bolles and his mother Barbara. Was in charge of the NYSED print and audio visual communications and moved on to several Albany Ad Agencies, then on to the SUNY-Wide Central Administration p Designer (65 campuses). Finally formed a corporation dedicated to marketing communications as owner, creative director. What kept me going was the diversity in interpretation of marketing objectives.

I am not a current member but keep in cyber contact with the Community. Recently I took note of your upcoming Coles Philips event offering on July 31.

I would love to attend however my wife is enduring spinal surgery recovery and pain management which keeps us close to home here in the Cap. District. ((Schenectady).

My wife and I have enjoyed a pretty good life (now retired), in advertising, sales promotion, marketing communications for local, regional, national and international clients.

While my client base centered around ‘Industrial markets’ such as GE Power Generation and GE Plastics along with GE Corporate Research and Dev. In addition to a host of clients ranging from standardbred horses to mop wringers, nuclear reactors and-on-and-on.

My wife was a technical translator for GE International during our child rearing days. She later formed an international import/export company. Imports of ship container loads of flat glass from Romania and fine pewter ware from the former East Germany. (We presented to OC back around 1982).

I would like to suggest that your moderator contact the Dean of Advertising and Sales Pro option at MVCC (could be another ID since I attended). Invite the summer term class to this event. As a former ad designer, I would have made ever effort to attend such an historic event,

I regret that I will be unable to attend due to health reasons. If our situation changes corse for the better we will make every attempt to attend.

    Keep the interest alive. Sincerely,
    Michael and Gisela Koen
