Jennifer Potter Hayes, executive director of View Arts, has announced that the arts center received grants from the following organizations: New York State Council on the Arts, The Community Foundation of Oneida and Herkimer Counties, Inc., The John Ben Snow Memorial Trust, The Adirondack Bank Golf Tournament, and Stewart’s Holiday Match. The 2015-2016 grants add up to $121,250 in support of the nonprofit institution.
In 2015 and 2016, The Community Foundation of Oneida and Herkimer Counties, Inc. has made two grants to View to promote capacity building at View. One of the core strategies in View’s long-range plan is to increase the center’s market visibility solidly beyond the local area, through expanded marketing and media relations. Since rebranding the Arts Center/Old Forge as View Arts in 2011, the center has seen significant increase in attendance from visitors outside the Central Adirondacks. The goal now is to strengthen participation by residents of the Mohawk Valley and Central New York, and to expand west to Syracuse and Rochester, east to Albany and the Hudson Valley, and north to Plattsburgh and Ontario. View’s website has been redesigned to expand marketing using an extensive array of social media. The grants received from the Community Foundation both in 2015 and 2016 support these initiatives.
The Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc. awards grants to nonprofit organizations whose projects and programs have the potential to make a long-lasting impact on the community and a significant difference to residents of our two-county region.
View has received a three-year grant from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support operating expenses including utilities, payroll, and maintenance. The New York State Council on the Arts is a state agency dedicated to preserving and expanding the rich and diverse cultural resources that are and will become the heritage of New York’s citizens.
The John Ben Snow Memorial Trust in Pulaski, New York, makes grants within specific focus areas to enhance the quality of life. Historically, Memorial Trust has made grants in the following program areas: arts and culture, community initiatives, disabilities and universal access, education, environment, historic preservation, journalism, and literacy. View will use this grant to purchase equipment to expand the glass fusion studio and offer more advanced level glass workshops.
The Adirondack Bank Golf Tournament, held annually at Thendara Golf Club, raises funds to support regional nonprofits. This year, View received a grant to help underwrite the 29th Annual Quilts Unlimited exhibition that will open at View onOctober 15, 2016.
Stewart’s Holiday Match program has awarded a grant to help underwrite children’s programs. View offers after school programs, and art and performance workshops for children year-round. Holiday Match is a holiday collection program, matched by Stewart’s, to help kids all year long.
“View Arts is grateful for the grant support we have received. Grants provide essential support of our operations and programs, and help View achieve its strategic goals. Additional grant requests are submitted each year to various public and private foundations to strengthen View’s future,” said Jennifer Potter Hayes, Executive Director.
Founded in 1951, View Arts is a year-round, multi-arts center housed in a LEED Silver-Certified facility (completed in 2011) designed for arts programming.
