Craft: “Make Your Own Alien”

Space Jam (1996) is a live-action-animated comedy packed with laughs and fun for the whole family. Desperate to save his failing amusement park, Moron Mountain, the evil alien Mr. Swackhammer looks to planet Earth for new attractions. He sends his tiny underlings, the Nerdlucks, to collect what he considers the ultimate attraction: The Looney Tunes. Bugs Bunny and the rest of the gang are kidnapped and held prisoner at Moron Mountain. Eager to return to home, they challenge the tiny Nerdlucks to a game of basketball to determine their fate. The Nerdlucks turn the tables on the Looney Tunes by stealing the talents of leading NBA stars and transforming themselves into a strong, fearsome team, known as the Monstars. The Looney Tunes turn to the legendary Michael Jordan to help secure their freedom. This wildly entertaining film features guest appearances by Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Muggsy Bogues, Shawn Bradley, and Larry Johnson.

Prior to the show, participants will have the chance to create their very own aliens!

Film: A League of Their Own—Friday, August 12th. Rated PG; 128 minutes

Craft: “Friendship Bracelets”

Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna, and Lori Petty star in A League of Their Own (1992), the fictionalized telling of the creation of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (1943).

In a small town in Oregon, sisters Dottie Hinson and Kit Keller are remarkably competitive, particularly when it comes to sports. Both women play for the local softball team; Dottie is the catcher and Kit is the pitcher. Meanwhile, World War II has taken countless athletic young men overseas, leaving the future of professional baseball unclear. Publicity-hungry candy manufacture Walter Harvey plots to keep the sport alive by creating a professional baseball league for women. Dottie and Kit are discovered by an agent and sent to Chicago to try out for the league. Both sisters, along with eight other players, are selected to form the Rockford Peaches, one of the league’s four teams. Jimmy Dugan, a drunk, washed-up player, is appointed team manager. Despite his initial contempt and ineptitude, the team begins to show promise, eventually qualifying for the league world series. Together, Dottie, Kit, and the other league members revolutionize the great American pastime and blaze the trail for generations of female athletes.

Join Ms. Jenna before the film for the chance to create friendship bracelets.

Popcorn will be provided at both screenings.
