On July 28, 2016, at approximately 8:47 p.m., State Police stopped a vehicle on I-87 for a seatbelt violation. The driver of the vehicle, David A. Perez, Jr., 28, of Cazenovia, was found to be impaired by drugs while traveling with an 8 year old child and her mother. He was taken into custody, transported, and processed at SP Albany, where he refused to be evaluated by a drug recognition expert. Perez submitted to a blood draw to determine the drug content in his system and was subsequently charged with:
- Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs with a Child; a Class E Felony
- Endangering the Welfare of a Child; a Class A Misdemeanor
- Unlawful Possession of Marijuana; a Violation
Perez was arraigned before the City of Albany Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bail or bond.
The child was turned over to her mother.
