Barry Spriggs headshot 001Barry Spriggs, of DeRuyter, has been named provost of Morrisville State College.

In his new position, Spriggs will take on all aspects of Morrisville’s academic and budgetary affairs, and set academic priorities. He will also supervise athletics and student services.

Spriggs has more than 29 years of experience in higher education and has worked at five universities. Prior to MSC, Spriggs was the dean of academic services at Lehigh Carbon Community College in Schnecksville, Pa. While at Lehigh Carbon, he was responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and development of instructional policies, programs, personnel and facilities at five sites.

He also served as adjunct criminal justice and sociology instructor, associate professor and chair of criminal justice, dean of students, as well as co-coordinator of institutional research and effectiveness.

Spriggs earned his B.S. in criminal justice and M.S. in administration of justice both from Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, Pa. He received his Ph.D. in sociology from South Dakota State University.
