Presented by Pendragon Theatre Company, “Art,” by Yasmina Reza revolves around the interconnected lives of three men: Serge, Marc, and Yvan. Although they’ve been close friends for 15 years, their friendship threatens to crumble when Serge buys a very expensive painting. He is proud of his purchase, yet his friends have one problem with it… the canvas has been painted completely white.
Delving deep into the psychology of the three characters, the play brings to the surface questions that society has been asking for thousands of years. Who has the power to define art? How can art affect our lives? And ultimately… what is art?
The piece was written by the French-language playwright Yasmina Reza and translated by Christopher Hampton. It contains some adult language and may not be suitable for all ages.
“Art” will be performed on August 8 at 7:30 pm by the players of Pendragon Theatre Company, which is an ensemble of artists, based in the Adirondacks, dedicated to preserving the vitality and enhancing the quality of professional theatre through year-round performance and educational programs.
