Oneida-based state police charged a Governeur man with aggravated DWI following a traffic stop in Verona Sunday evening.
At approximately 10:10 p.m. July 31, Trooper Steven Fountain observed a 2003 Mercury Sable driving southbound on State Route 365 near Hill Road in Verona. The Mercury swerved over the double solid center line of the roadway several times and a traffic stop was conducted.
While interviewing the operator, identified as David C. Butler, 54, Fountain observed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on Butler’s breath. Sobriety tests indicated Butler was intoxicated and he was taken into custody for DWI.
A breath test at the SP Oneida barracks determined Butler’s blood-alcohol content to be .18 percent. Butler was arraigned in Verona Town Court on charges of DWI, aggravated DWI with BAC of .18 percent or greater, failure to keep right and failure to signal turn.
Butler was remanded to Oneida County Jail in lieu of $2,000 cash bail or $4,000 bail bond to reappear in Verona Town Court at a later date.
