ColgateRaidersClass Highlighted by Five Forwards, Three Defenseman and One Goaltender

Colgate men’s ice hockey head coach Don Vaughan has announced the addition of nine newcomers to the program for the 2016-17 season. This year’s recruiting class features five forwards, three defenseman and one goaltender.

“We are excited to welcome these nine outstanding student-athletes to the Colgate Hockey program,” said Vaughan. “I want to thank my staff, Mike Harder ’97 and Juliano Pagliero, for their hard work in identifying and helping bring these young men to Colgate.

“These student athletes are a perfect fit for Colgate University and our hockey program. They are exceptional young men and each possesses a specific skill set that meets our needs. We lost a lot of offense to graduation after last season so there is opportunity for them to have an immediate impact. We are looking forward to start of the 2016-17 season.”

The Class of 2020 is the programs largest recruiting class to join the Raiders since they welcomed the 10 newcomers to the program in 2013, including nine players that are part of the Class of 2017 entering their senior seasons this year.

Included in this new class is goaltender Colton Point, who was selected in the fifth round with the 128th overall pick of the 2016 NHL Draft by the Dallas Stars.

The 2015-16 Raiders finished the season with an 11-24-2 overall record and 6-14-2 mark in ECAC Hockey play. Colgate’s season came to an end in a thrilling three-game series with the Dartmouth Big Green in the first round of the ECAC Hockey Tournament with the Raiders falling 4-3 in double overtime in the final game of the series.
