Herkimer County Community College will host a presentation on the traditions and history of Russian Orthodox iconography Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 5 p.m. in the Cogar Gallery. The presentation is free and open to the public.
Reverend Alexis Duncan of the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God in Colonie will discuss the use of icons in religious worship, the techniques, materials and symbolism employed in icon painting and how the tradition of icon painting has been preserved. The program coincides with the exhibit of Russian Orthodox icons and religious objects currently on display in the Cogar Gallery.
The Cogar Gallery, located in the Robert McLaughlin College Center, is open to the public free of charge, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday when the College is open. For more information, visit www.herkimer.edu/cogar.
