

The Morrisville State College athletic department announced its Mustang Athlete of the Week selections, naming freshman volleyball player Megyan Merrill (Millport) and senior runner Byron Evans (Cazenovia) the awardees for the week ending September 11.
Merrill had an outstanding week for the Mustangs at outside hitter, averaging 3.05 kills per set as Morrisville State went 2-3 on the week.
In the five set loss to Hamilton, Merrill posted seven kills and had three assists, while registering nine digs before following that performance with an 11 kill, 15 dig outing against Westminster at the Penn St. Behrend Tourney.
In the 3-2 match win over St. Vincent, Merrill posted a collegiate best 19 kills (3.8 kills per set), added two assists, and had nine digs to go along with two solo blocks. She wrapped up her weekend with 13 kills, 12 digs and four service aces in the five set win over Behrend, earning her All-Tournament team honors.
Through five matches, Merrill posted a total 64 kills, for a .209 hitting percentage, had five assists, eight service aces, 64 digs and three total blocks.
The freshman is a graduate of Horseheads High, and is majoring in nursing at Morrisville State. She is the daughter of Melissa and David Merrill of Millport.
Evans finished third overall at the invitational, and was the top NEAC finisher as he turned in an 8K time of 30:13.74.
His efforts led Morrisville State to a fourth place team finish. Evans finished only behind two runners from Union College.
Evans is majoring in automotive technology at Morrisville State. He is the son of Merry and Jim Evans of Cazenovia.
