Herkimer County Community College will induct Donald J. Snyder ’04, of West Winfield, and Dartray Belk ’06, of New York, to the Alumni Hall of Honor. The induction ceremony will take place Friday, September 30 at 7 p.m. in Alumni Hall, located in the Robert McLaughlin College Center, followed by a reception.

Snyder is a retired attorney who served on the College’s Board of Trustees for more than 22 years, and as chairman of the board for 12 of those years. During his tenure on the board, the College experienced significant growth including the construction of the Technology Center, Wehrum Stadium and Reservoir Run and the expansion of the Robert McLaughlin College Center, Physical Education and Library Buildings.  Snyder was also instrumental in securing funding for the Edward Manning and Shirley Augar Gaynor Science Center. While serving on the Board, Snyder enrolled at Herkimer College and earned an associate in arts degree in Fine Arts in 2004.

Belk earned an associate degree in criminal justice and continued his education at Hartford University in Hartford, Connecticut. He is a New York City policeman and a community affairs liaison officer with the 26th precinct in Harlem. He has played a pivotal role in volunteer projects aimed at weeding out negative actions in communities by replacing it with positive, productive action. Belk recently returned to his alma mater to deliver the keynote address at Herkimer College’s convocation.

The Alumni Hall of Honor recognizes alumni who have distinguished themselves in their careers and/or in service to their communities. Snyder and Belk will join 24 other alumni who have been inducted within the past 16 years.

The event is part of the Fall Fest & Alumni Weekend which takes place September 30 through October 2. In recognition of the College’s 50th anniversary, the Alumni Hall of Honor induction event is open to all alumni, employees and friends of Herkimer College and will be followed by a fireworks display at dusk. Additionally, the Alumni Hall of Honor will be relocated to a more visible location in the College Center lobby and new plaques will be unveiled with help from previous honorees.

Reservations are required by contacting the Foundation Office at 315-866-0300 ext. 8459 or shepardta@herkimer.edu by Friday, September 23.
