letter-to-editorTo the Editor:

Every 60 bseconds, 20 individuals are abused by their domestic partner, according to statistics provided by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. In Madison County alone, an annual average of more than 300 individuals and families seek out help due to violence in the home.

In the month of October, Liberty Resources, Inc.’s Victims of Violence program invites you to stand with us against violence. This October, let us honor National Domestic Violence Awareness Month by promoting peace in our own families, homes, and communities. No longer will survivors and their friends remain silent about violence.

Raise your voice. To help spread awareness of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we invite you to:

  • Learn the signs and symptoms of domestic violence. Visit our program website at www.victimsofviolence.org to learn more about the ways you or a loved one can receive help
  • Learn about the local resources available. The VOV program offers help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is available through our Madison County hotline at 315-366- 5000. You can also follow Liberty Resources, Inc. on Facebook to learn more about the community programs available at https://www.facebook.com/Liberty.Resources
  • Take a stand. Wear the color purple to celebrate awareness on Thursday, October 20 th as part of the New York State Office on Domestic Violence’s “Wear Purple Day” – you can also share your pictures on social media using the hashtag #gopurple4vov
  • Take an action. Consider purchasing a ribbon at your local SavOn convenience store in the month of October to promote awareness of domestic violence
