At approximately 4:35 a.m. Oct. 9, Troopers Nathan T. Parrino and Steven P. Fountain were dispatched to a car/house motor vehicle accident at 4460 Peterboro Street in the village of Vernon.

Upon arrival, troopers determined that a 2003 Honda Accord had been travelling south on State Route 31 and passed through the intersection of State Route 5 at an unsafe speed. As the car continued south onto Peterboro Street, it was unable to navigate a sharp right-hand curve and drove off the east side of the roadway.

The car sheared off a utility pole and then struck the residence at 4460 Peterboro St., causing structural damage to the front of the apartment house and dropping live power lines onto the building. The Vernon Fire Department responded to the scene and secured the area until the arrival of National Grid personnel.

The driver of the Honda, John J. Noone, 21, of Staten Island, was interviewed and found to be uninjured in the crash. Troopers observed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on the breath of Noone and sobriety tests indicated that he was intoxicated.

Noone was taken into custody for DWI and transported to the SP Oneida barracks, where a breath test determined his blood alcohol content to be .15%.  NOONE was ticketed for DWI, Driving with a BAC of .08% or greater, unsafe speed and failure to keep right.  He is scheduled to appear in the Village of Vernon Court Nov. 9, 2016.
