State Police in Oneida are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred at the intersection of State Route 31 and Irish Ridge Road in the Town of Verona, Oneida County.
At approximately 1:39 p.m., a 2014 Cadillac sedan operated by Helen E. Hawthorne, 73, of 6358 Happy Valley Road, Verona, was traveling north on Irish Ridge Road when she failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of State Route 31.
Hawthorne continued through the intersection and was struck by a 2015 Nissan Frontier pickup truck that was traveling eastbound on State Route 31.
The driver of the pickup truck, William P. George Jr., 55, of 712 Shady Lane in Sylvan Beach, was treated at the scene and released. Hawthorne was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation is continuing.
