friends-of-rogersJoin Friends of Rogers to create a festive holiday wreath during one of their popular seasonal workshops on Dec. 3. Two sessions will be offered; one will begin at 10 am and another will start at 11:30 am. Participants will receive instructions and all materials necessary to design and build this traditional decoration.

A holiday wreath is one of the most popular decorations during the yuletide season. Wreaths are traditionally hung on front doors as a sign of welcome, used in Advent wreaths in Christian traditions, strung from lampposts in cities and villages, and used in a variety of other ways.

Although the wreath has strong historical ties to Christianity, the holiday wreath has evolved into a sign of welcoming and an acknowledgment of holiday cheer for the season, emphasizing generosity, giving, and the gathering of loved ones.

“We are extremely grateful to Evergreene Graphics for partnering with us,” said Simon Solomon, executive director. “Since 2011, when Friends of Rogers saved Rogers Environmental Education Center from closing, we have relied on the generosity of local businesses like Evergreene Graphics to support community activities, allowing this vital resource to be preserved – and to flourish.”

Space is limited; advance registration is strongly encouraged at $12 for members or $15 for not-yet- members; call (607) 674-4733 or email env.educator@FriendsofRogers.org to register.

The workshop will be held in the Visitor Center on State Route 80 in Sherburne; those needing to may use the adjacent parking lot, and the center is accessible.

Rogers Center is operated by Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization that offers educational programs for people of all ages. Seasonal hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
