bnewThe Morrisville-Eaton Board of Education today appointed Benjamin New as its new Middle/High School Principal, following a comprehensive review of qualified candidates.

Mr. New is currently the Principal at Bolivar Road Elementary School in the Chittenango Central School District, where he oversees 450 students and 80 staff members. He previously served in a number of other roles in the Chittenango district, including: Lake Street Elementary School Principal, High School Assistant Principal, Middle School Assistant Principal, and an Administrative Intern with the Athletic Department.

Before becoming a school administrator, Mr. New spent eight years as a technology teacher, transitioning students to the new NYS Technology Standards and integrating technology into the curriculum. During this time, he also coached varsity wrestling, junior varsity football and modified lacrosse, and he took a team of wrestlers on a trip to Europe.

Mr. New holds a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, a master’s degree from SUNY Oswego and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from SUNY Cortland.

“I’ve enjoyed the administrative experience I’ve had at all building levels in Chittenango, but my background is at the secondary level so I’m excited to get back to working with those students,” Mr. New said. “I’m looking forward to joining the Morrisville-Eaton district and community.”

The search process involved three rounds of interviews and meetings with administrators and several district and community stakeholder groups. Superintendent Greg Molloy said he was impressed with the candidates who applied for the position and believes Mr. New will be an asset to the district.

“After a thorough screening of many great candidates, the Board felt that the students and staff of Morrisville-Eaton Middle/High School have a lot to gain from the depth of experiences Mr. New has had,” Mr. Molloy said. “His references consistently reinforced the qualities our community desires, most notably his work ethic and his eagerness to work collaboratively. I’m excited to have the privilege of working with such a dedicated educational leader.”

He will begin January 3, 2017.
