The New York State Department of Health has devoted $1.5 million dollars to test lead in residential drinking water.
The Free Lead Testing Pilot Program is for New York State residents served by a public water system or an individual water supply. The program provides free testing for lead in drinking water.
To take advantage of this free lead testing opportunity fill out a request form and email it to the New York State Department of Health. A sample kit, return postage for the selected laboratory and sampling instructions will be mailed.
Lead in drinking water can come from lead service lines, pipes, plumbing fixtures and solder.
The Madison County Department of Health may be contacted at 366-2526 for interpretation of lead testing results and further guidance.
