The dos and don’ts of recycling Styrofoam in Madison County. Look for the number six on your material before you recycle it.
Styrofoam can be dropped off at any of the County’s four transfer stations during normal working hours. Styrofoam should be given to the transfer station attendant, who will make sure it is placed in the proper recycling container.
Residents are reminded that Styrofoam cannot be placed at CURBSIDE. “There is no curbside pickup of Styrofoam,” said Recycling Coordinator Mary Bartlett. Styrofoam must be recycled at one of the County’s four transfer stations.
When preparing Styrofoam for recycling make sure it is (EPS#6), is WHITE and clean with all tape and labels removed. Place the Styrofoam in a clear plastic bag and give it to the transfer station attendant.
Acceptable items are:
- Large white packaging foam (EPS#6),
- Clean white styrofoam cups and take out containers.
- Clean white egg cartons (a little printing is ok)
NOT accepted:
- Peanuts, soiled containers, colored Styrofoam or packing materials other than EPS#6.
- Please note, if the material says PP it is NOT RECYCLABLE
