April is Alcohol Awareness Month – and the Hamilton Area Community Coalition has big plans to raise awareness in our shared community about underage drinking and preventing youth substance abuse.
On April 1, 2017, at the Palace Theater in Hamilton, the HACC Youth Team will kick off a month-long community awareness campaign by hosting the “Don’t Be An April Fool With Alcohol & Drugs” Teen Masquerade Dance & Parent Comedy Club! And best of all – it’s free. Event will feature national motivational speaker, comedian, and PhD, Matt Bellace.
In partnership with Community Memorial Hospital and Hamilton Central School Students Against Destructive Decisions, this dual purpose event will provide teens with a pro-social opportunity to have fun in a safe environment and encourage parents to have effective conversations with their teens about drugs and alcohol.
The event will be open to all Madison County students, grades 8-12, and will be held at the Palace Theater in Hamilton from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Event is free, but pre-registration is required. Upstairs will be a formal teen masquerade dance, while downstairs parents will enjoy a comedy club atmosphere with local music, a chat on positive body image with Dr. Travis Hall, youth psychologist from Community Memorial Hospital, and an entertaining presentation from Matt Bellace. Matt will address both audiences with his unique blend of humor, science, and motivation while providing encouragement to find your own “Natural High.”
Madison County has been hard hit with drug abuse and overdose deaths. The best way to protect our young people and make sure they reach their fullest potential is to empower them to make positive life choices, and provide opportunities for safe and healthy fun!
The Hamilton Area Community Coalition is working to empower parents, youth and community members to work together and reduce the impact of alcohol and substance abuse in Hamilton.
