In recognition of Earth Day 2017 and in preparation for the upcoming 193rd consecutive navigation season on the state Canal System the Great Swamp Conservancy, volunteers picked up litter along a section of the Erie Canal towpath in the Canastota area.
This annual Canal Clean Sweep is a multi-community celebration involving non-profit organizations, service groups, municipalities, and volunteers throughout the month of April. The Canal Clean Sweep highlights the growing significance of the Canal System and the Canalway Trail System as a recreational and tourism destination across the state.
