The Herkimer Generals men’s soccer spring 2017 schedule has been released. Herkimer will play five matches against three NCAA Division I teams, one NCAA Division II team and a National Premier Soccer League team.
Herkimer opens up the spring season on April 9 hosting Lemoyne College. The Dolphins qualified for the 2016 NCAA Division II national tournament with a 14-5- 2 record in 2016.
Herkimer will travel to Syracuse University on Friday, April 14. The Orange posted a record of 12-4-4 in 2016 and earned the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Syracuse earned a first-round bye and defeated Dartmouth to advance to the third round for the third consecutive year.
The Generals will travel to Hartwick College for their third game which will be played at the former National Hall of Fame Fields in Oneonta. The Hawks finished the 2016 season with a 9-6- 4 overall record and lost in the semi-finals of the Sun Belt Conference tournament.
Herkimer will finish up the season at Binghamton University in a three-way game with Greater Binghamton Futbol Club. The Binghamton University Bearcats finished the 2016 season with a 7-6- 6 record and lost in the first round of the American East Conference.
Greater Binghamton competes in the National Premier Soccer League and is coached by Herkimer soccer alumnus Chris Riley.
“This is a great spring schedule for us,” said Aragon. “Every game is a huge challenge which is great for our players who are moving on to play at these levels. It also gives our coaching staff a good look at our freshmen and transfer players.”
