Stirpe: Budget brings ride-hailing to Central New York

Al Stirpe

“Ride-hailing apps have become widespread throughout the country. Now, all New Yorkers will finally be able to reap the benefits, too. This year’s state budget finally legalizes ride-hailing services in upstate New York. From safer roads to more employment opportunities, the benefits of ride-hailing in Central New York are countless.

“Authorizing ride-hailing can help give Central New Yorkers peace of mind. Our communities have seen far too many lives taken by reckless drunken driving that could have been avoided with services like these. Additionally, these apps drive tourism to areas unreachable by public transit, pumping revenue into our local economy and moving Central New Yorkers forward. For the thousands of New Yorkers who have reached out and spoken in favor of this issue, know your voices have been heard. I also made sure that the budget included measures to protect passengers, hold drivers to a high standard and ensure individuals with disabilities are treated equally. I’ll continue fighting to ensure that Central New Yorkers are always heard loud and clear in Albany.”
