As McCarthy, we’ve all be waiting for May…a time for the earth to renew and for us to plant and toil in our gardens. And, finally, May is here! The Canastota Central School District is holding its district-wide Art Show at the Canastota Public Library this year. The entire library will be “decked out” in art created by the talented students of the school district. Stop by, anytime the library is open, to browse this eclectic collection.
Movies are shown at the Library every Tuesday afternoon beginning at 5 p.m.

Beginning on May 8 and throughout the entire week, the Canastota seed exchange will be holding our annual seedling and plant exchange. Bring your tubers, plants, seedlings, divisions, plants or bulbs to exchange or share with others. Our plant exchange will be located near our Main Entrance of the library.
In celebration of the Erie Canal Bicentennial and to highlight a local historic site, Mike Allen, resident blacksmith, will present Stories from the Landing: History of the Dry Docks at Chittenango at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, Allen will explain the history of the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum, its rediscovery and restoration.
On Tuesday, May 23 at 7 p.m., our Canalside Talk will feature Canal Boat Captain, Michele Henry. This dramatization illustrates a day in the life of a Canal Boat Captain. The Canalside Talks are a collaboration between the Canal Town Museum and the Library. A short question and answer period follows the presentation.
The Book Chat Group has selected “The Rope” by Nevada Barr as their discussion book for the May Meeting. Copies of the book are available now from the library. The Book Chat will meet on Tuesday, May 30 at 1 p.m. in the Lawson Room on the second floor of the library. The Lunch & Lit Book Club meets Wednesday, May 17, at 11:30 a.m., at The Raider. Their selection for the month is “The Double Bind” by Chris Bohjalian. Both groups welcome new readers for discussion at every meeting!
The Night Time Knitters meet every Thursday evening at the Canastota Public Library from 6:30 until 8 p.m. The Library Knitters meet every Friday morning at the Library from 10 a.m. until noon. Both groups are interested in having knitters of all experience levels join them for knitting in the Lawson Community Room, Lower Level of the library.
Baby and Me Lap Sit with Miss Angela is a program full of story reading, finger plays, songs, rhymes and more to stimulate your infant to 24-month-old child. This program is held every Wednesday morning beginning at 10 a.m. on the second floor of the Canastota Public Library.
Thursdays at 10 a.m. is Preschooler Storytime. Bring your preschooler for stories, games, crafts and a snack. This group meets on the second floor of the library each Thursday morning.
For those who are interested in art, the library holds Canastota Creates. This is an art group that focusing on sketching, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, drawing, origami and many other art forms. Anyone who creates or who crafts is invited to join this group which meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m.
Party Bridge is played at the library each Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the Lawson Community Room. Participants should be experienced Bridge Players and not beginners. Party Bridge is an open group and welcomes you to come and play.
