April showers bring May…. Volunteers??? Yes! That’s right. Throughout the flowering month of May we here at Office for the Aging in Madison County have been able to recognize the hundreds of volunteers that give countless hours every year to make our county a better place to live during Senior Corps Week, May 15 through 19, 2017.

Seniors 55 and older are given many unique opportunities through the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

Bone Builders is a longstanding RSVP sponsored program. Every week volunteers and participants meet and participate in exercise programs geared towards maintaining bone health in senior citizens.

Bone Builders has grown over the years to include a total of 146 Madison County residents that are both participants as well as volunteers. RSVP is looking forward to the continued sponsorship, as well as promotion of the Bone Builders program in Madison County.

RSVP volunteers spend numerous hours each week helping out in local food pantries, mentoring young children, working in local libraries, driving seniors to medical appointments, and many other activities such as volunteering with Veterans in Madison County. These are just a few of the opportunities that RSVP in Madison County has to offer. Within these opportunities, Madison County has provided stations with 180 volunteers.

Throughout our nation, Senior Corps is a force of 245,000 volunteers that gives 74.6 millino hours of service. Madison County is proud to be a part of this large volunteer force that provided volunteer services to 28,100 unique sites over the last year.
