On July 24, 2017, State Police in Watertown arrested Shawn O. Moore Jr., age 26, formerly of 227 Francis Street, Watertown, for Murder in the 2nd Degree. This arrest stems from the shooting death of Tyler Johnson that occurred on May 18, 2017, in the Town of Pamelia, Jefferson County, New York.

The New York State Police, with the assistance of the US Marshals Service in Syracuse, NY, the US Marshals Service Florida / Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force, and the Orange County (Florida) Sheriff’s Department, arrested Moore in Winter Garden, Florida, this afternoon. The cumulative effort and support of these agencies resulted in today’s arrest.

After Moore was located, an arrest warrant from Justice Anthony J. Casselman, Town of Pamelia Court, Jefferson County, was filed with Orange County (Florida) Court, where Moore is being held as a fugitive from justice, pending his respective extradition proceeding. Moore will be returned to Jefferson County to be arraigned on these charges at a later date.

At this time, Shawn O. Moore Jr. is the fifth person arrested in connection with the death of Tyler Johnson. Those previously arrested and or taken into custody include Jamaal Carr, Sammy Brown, Taylor Beckstead, and Devin Hunter Davis. All of these persons have been charged or will be arraigned on a later date, charged with Murder in the 2nd degree.

This remains an active investigation. The New York State Police are interested in speaking to any person that had direct contact with any of these identified persons, and who may have knowledge of any event that led up to the death of Tyler Johnson.

On July 17, 2017, State Police in Watertown arrested Taylor I. Beckstead, age 20, formerly of 1620 Huntington St, apt K8, Watertown, NY, and Devin Hunter Davis, age 22, of 238 Lakeview Drive, Colonial Beach, Virginia. Both were charged with Murder in the 2nd Degree. This arrest stems from the shooting death of Tyler Johnson that occurred on May 18, 2017, in the Town of Pamelia, Jefferson County.

Since the onset of this investigation, State Police have been supported by law enforcement agencies in the Colonial Beach, Virginia area, to include the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Department, the King George County Sheriff’s Department, and the Virginia State Police. The cumulative effort and support of these agencies resulted in today’s arrest.

After Beckstead and Davis were located, arrest warrants from Justice Anthony J. Casselman, Town of Pamelia Court, Jefferson County, were filed with the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Department, where both Beckstead and Davis are being held as fugitives from justice, pending their respective extradition proceedings. Beckstead and Davis will be returned to Jefferson County to be arraigned on these charges at a later date.

On July 6, 2017, State Police in Watertown announce the arrest of Jamaal K. Carr, age 26, of 532 Franklin Street, apartment B, Watertown, NY, for Murder in the 2nd Degree.

This arrest stems from the shooting death of Tyler Johnson that occurred on May 18, 2017, in the Town of Pamelia, Jefferson County, New York.

Carr was arrested in the City of Syracuse and was arraigned in the Town of Pamelia Court where he was remanded to the Jefferson County Public Safety Building without bail.

State Police are interested in speaking to any person that was in the area of State Route 37 and County Route 16, in the Town of Pamelia, Jefferson County that may have been approached by any person seeking a ride, between the hours of 12:15 a.m. and 3 a.m. This vehicle and driver we are interested in speaking to was last seen east on County Route 16, toward the Village of Evans Mills.

State Police in Watertown are investigating a shooting that occurred shortly after 1 am this morning at a residence in the Town of Pamelia, Jefferson County.

Troopers responded to 28764 State Route 37 for a reported person shot inside the residence. Tyler J. Johnson, age 20, who resided at that residence, was found in a bedroom suffering from a gunshot wound.  He was airlifted to SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse where he succumbed to his injuries.

State Police believe the suspect(s) knew Johnson and that he was the intended target of the shooting.
