The Independence Party and Women’s Equality Party have endorsed Douglas Scott Blanchard as their candidate for the Town Council of Lenox. He will be pursuing the Democratic endorsement during the upcoming September caucus. Blanchard has been working at the Canastota Central School District as a substitute teacher this past year.

“I’m running for town council because I want to help make our local government more accessible, transparent, and accountable. I think a lot of people feel detached from the process in their local legislature; I want to change that,” Blanchard said. “I firmly believe that it should not just feel possible for folks to be heard by their representative, but easy. After all, whose voice are they representing if not your own? I want to publicize a variety of ways to share your ideas and concerns with your representatives in Lenox. Then, I want to make clear what methods I am using to work on the issue every step of the way.

“When all’s said and done, I want to follow up with the constituents to explain what the town can do for them. Our tax dollars are what keeps our local government running and I think we all deserve to know how they are working to make the town better for you. We need a representative on the town council that is going to work hard for us to make things accessible, transparent, and accountable; this year, that candidate is me.”

Blanchard graduated from Canastota High School in 2012 and earned a bachelor’s degree in English from SUNY Geneseo in 2016. He is certified to teach English in grades 7-12 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in literacy with SUNY Cortland.
