Today, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-22) released the following statement on the proposed elimination of the Federal Deduction for State and Local Taxes:
“As I’ve said from day one, eliminating the federal deduction for state and local taxes will unfairly burden the over 3 million hardworking taxpayers in New York who claim the deduction. Until New York completely overhauls its tax code, removing this provision will strip primarily middle- and low-income New Yorkers of their only real tax relief. Throughout the negotiations on tax reform, I will continue to fight alongside my colleagues in New York to ensure this vitally important relief mechanism is in the final bill.”
NOTE: In June, Rep. Tenney co-signed a letter to Secretary Mnuchin, led by Rep. Dan Donovan (NY-11), expressing concerns about the elimination of the SALT deduction.
Currently, 30 percent of taxpayers nationwide, and 62,530 in the 22nd District, claim this deduction, making it one of the most widely used in the country.
