Weatherization Program Will Help Reduce Heating Season Utility Bills For Mohawk Valley Families

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi announced today that Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency will receive just over $1.4 million through the State Division of Homes and Community Renewal’s Weatherization Assistance Program.  The program is designed to significantly help with the cost of heating and cooling costs for eligible families and senior citizens.  Funding in the amount of $59 million is being provided to help approximately 9,200 households statewide.

Assemblyman Brindisi said: “Mohawk Valley Community Action is known for its weatherization programs that can help families and senior citizens slash an average of one-fifth of their utility bills.  Weatherization not only cuts costs, but it reduces energy use, and helps the environment.  When homes are audited for this program, they also are checked for mold, carbon monoxide, and other potential hazards.  This program helps keep families in their homes in a cleaner, safer environment, and significantly reduces household expenses.”

Brindisi said Mohawk Valley agencies awarded Weatherization Program funds include:

  • Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency  $1,413,214
  • Fulton/Montgomery Community Action $750,000
  • Stoneleigh Housing, Inc. (Madison County) $375,000
  • Opportunities for Otsego, Inc.  $375,000
  • Schoharie County Community Action Program  $375,000
