The Cazenovia Public Library will present two free screenings of Battle of the Sexes Friday, Jan. 5 at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room. The 2017 sports film dramatizes the events leading up to the famed tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs.
During the rise of the women’s movement, the 1973 match between women’s world number one Billie Jean King and ex-men’s champ Bobby Riggs was advertised as the Battle of the Sexes.
The match became the most televised sports event of all time, reaching 90 million viewers around the world. As the rivalry between them intensified, King and Riggs struggled with their own complex personal battles off-court.
The film is rated PG-13 and runs 121 minutes. Free popcorn provided. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Cazenovia Public Library. All events at the Cazenovia Public Library are free and open to the public.
