Brindisi: we need to keep our rail service on track
Standing in Utica’s Union Station, I recently outlined the effect the 2019 federal budget proposal could have on long-distance rail service for Mohawk Valley residents. Simply put, major cuts to the Northeast Corridor could derail our regional Amtrak service in Utica and Rome. In addition, the budget would significantly cut federal funding for vital programs to upgrade rail infrastructure and safety, at a time when these improvements are urgently needed. I am urging New York’s Congressional delegation to speak out against this short-sighted proposal that will harm our state’s economy, and the safety of rail passengers.
