CMH Family Health Centers promote living healthfully with Walk With a Doc Program
On Sunday, March 18, at 2:30 p.m., Community Memorial Family Health Centers encourage area residents to lace up and attend the second in a series of Walk With a Doc events held at the Class of 1965 Arena on the campus of Colgate University.
“Walk With a Doc” is inspired and led by family medicine provider, Paula Welsh, nurse practitioner, from the Hamilton Family Health Center. The program combines a one mile casual walk with a brief, informative healthcare lesson, which focuses on gastrointestinal health.
According to the American Heart Association, walking is the simplest positive change one can make to improve heart health. Just 30 minutes a day can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, improve blood pressure and blood sugar levels and enhance mental well-being.
Walking also helps reduce the risk of osteoporosis, breast cancer, colon cancer and non-insulin dependent (Type 2) diabetes.
The “Walk With a Doc” program is a series of events held once a month throughout the year on unday afternoons. Additional dates include April 15 and May 20, all beginning at 2:30 p.m.
New healthcare topics are covered at each session and participants are rewarded with the health benefits of walking. The events are held rain or shine and are free to the community. Registration is highly encouraged for the event at walkwithadoc.org/our-locations/hamilton-ny/.
