Magee: Assembly budget proposal invests in local roads and bridges
Assemblyman Bill Magee (D-Nelson) announced that he helped pass the Assembly’s 2018-19 state budget proposal, which increases funding for road and highway maintenance and repair throughout Central New York.
“Central New York’s roads keep our families moving and businesses connected to markets and customers,” Magee said. “The Assembly’s budget proposal ensures that roads and bridges in Madison, Oneida and Otsego counties get much-needed upgrades to make them safer and stronger. Whether it’s going to work, the grocery store, or transporting farm products, reliable roads get us where we need to go, and this funding makes sure local taxpayers don’t have to foot the bill.”
The Assembly’s plan provides $519 million for the Consolidated Local Highway and Street Improvement Program, an increase of $81 million over the executive state budget proposal. The funding is in addition to $100 million for the PAVE-NY program, which is funded through the CHIPs formula. CHIPs helps local governments make much-needed repairs and upgrades to local infrastructure without burdening local taxpayers. The Assembly’s budget proposal also restores funding for the Extreme Winter Recovery program to help counties mitigate the impact of harsh weather like fixing potholes.
