Credit card skimming device found at gas station in Watertown

On March 25, 2018, employees at Mercer’s (Mobil gas station) located at 21623 State Route 232, in the town of Watertown discovered (2) credit card skimming devices installed on their gas pumps (pump numbers 1 and 4).

The skimmers appear to have been installed sometime after Friday (03/23/18) afternoon and were discovered and removed on Sunday, 03/25/18 at around 10:30AM).  Mercer’s employees immediately notified law enforcement.

Individuals who used these pumps to purchase gasoline between these dates are encouraged to check their credit/debit card statements and contact their credit/debit card company to cancel their card and request to be issued a new one.

If anyone discovers a fraudulent charge on their credit/debit card that were made after your gasoline purchase, should first contact your financial institution to determine the extent of the fraud, and then contact the New York State Police at SP Watertown to file a complaint (315) 782-2112.
