Brindisi: Hearing sheriffs’ concerns

“Making our schools and communities safer was the focus of a meeting I had recently with the New York State Sheriff’s Association in Albany,” said Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi. “It is always valuable to have an open dialogue with members of our law enforcement community. As usual, our region was well represented, with Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol and Herkimer County Sheriff Chris Farber in attendance. Improving the state’s probation system and helping better manage inmates who come in addicted to opioids are other topics of concern this year by sheriffs.”

Honoring Our Region’s Future Innovators

Next month is the 10th annual Air Force Research Laboratory/Griffiss Institute Challenge Competition.  During the week of April 23, students from eight area high schools in Oneida, Herkimer, and Madison Counties will compete over four days to solve a high tech problem, with AFRL personnel on hand to guide them. Organizers call it ‘a mental marathon.’ On Friday, April 27th at noon, an awards ceremony and luncheon takes place at the Griffiss Institute, 725 Daedalian Drive, Rome. The winners receive summer internships from the AFRL and the Griffiss Institute. Each participating students receives a Micosoft Surface Pro. If you’d like to attend the awards ceremony, please RSVP Amy Czajka at aczajka@griffissinstitute.org
