Four facing drug charges in Smithfield incident
Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputies and investigators responded to 5370 Peterboro Road in Smithfield to assist medical personnel with a report of a man who was bleeding.
Shortly after arrival, investigators observed items used to manufacture methamphetamine and a methamphetamine lab. The Sheriff’s Office and the state police Contaminated Crime Scene Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant and located finished methamphetamine product and several other items that were used to manufacture the methamphetamine.
The following people were arrested and charged with third-degree manufacturing methamphetamine in (class D felony), fifth-degree conspiracy (class A misdemeanor) and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (class A misdemeanor).
- Donald J. Ciani, 40 of 5370 Peterboro Road, Oneida
- Mark J. Morey Jr., 34 of 6460 State Route 5, Vernon
- Harold F. Ortman Jr. , 35 of 5370 Peterboro Road, Oneida
- Connie A. Thurston, 37 of 5370 Peterboro Road, Oneida
All subjects were arraigned in Smithfield Town Court. Ciani, Morey and Ortman were all remanded to the Madison County Jail where bail was set. Thurston was released on her own recognizance. All subjects are scheduled to appear at court at a later date to answer the charges.
