Wetland Symposium at the Great Swamp Conservancy
The public is invited to a wetland forum April 13 sponsored by the Iroquois and Central Chapter Society of American Foresters and the New York Forest Owners Association to be held at the Great Swamp Conservancy, 8375 N. Main St., Canastota.
The agenda includes exploration of the many benefits of wetlands, projects that benefit wetland ecosystems, federal and state wetland regulations, wetland flora, mitigation, retrofitting, banking and field trip/demonstration of wetland topics.
Distinguished guest speakers include biologist Judy Robinson of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; Michael Zagata, Ph.D., director of the state Forester Owners Association; Dr. Kevin Bliss of the state Department of Environmental Conservation; Joseph McMullen, PWS environmental consultant and botanist; Tiffany Toukatly, habitat biologist for the DEC; Carl Schwartz of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service; and Michael Retrosi, Canastota High School senior attending ESF in the fall.
The program starts at 8:30 a.m.
Sandwiches and drink will be provided for $5, payable at the event, or bring your own bagged lunch. Pre-registration for lunch purposes may be emailed to danielzimmerman57@yahoo.com. Portions of the program are outdoors and may include muddy conditions, so dress appropriately.
