Canastota Public Library announces budget vote
The last time the public voted to increase the Canastota Public Library budget was 2013. Our fiscally responsible board of trustees and library staff have done a fine job of managing your tax dollars; however, with costs increasing, the board has adopted a new budget for your approval. Copies of the budget are available at the main desk of the library and the Canastota High School Business Office.
The proposition calls for a 2-percent increase ($6,565) in the Canastota Public Library Budget for fiscal year 2018-19. The vote will be part of the Canastota Central Schools District vote Tuesday, May 15, from noon to 9 p.m. at the South Side Elementary gymnasium and the Roberts Street complex auditorium. To vote you must be a citizen of the U.S., 18 years of age, a resident of the school district for a period of 30 days prior to the election and registered within the proper school election district.
Absentee ballots are available at the Canastota Schools District/Business Office, 120 Roberts St., Canastota, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
The proposition will be on the back side of the ballot and will read as follows:
Resolved, that pursuant to Education Law, Section 259, the Board of Education of the Canastota Central School District is authorized to levy and collect an annual tax, year after year, separate and apart from the annual school district budget, in the amount of $334,822 (which is an increase of $6,565 from the levy in effect from 2017-2018 in the sum of $328,257) which shall be paid to the Canastota Public Library for the support and maintenance of the library; with this appropriated amount to be the annual appropriation until thereafter modified by a future vote of the electors of the Canastota Central School District.
