Spotlight On: Community Wellness Center

Meet Diane and Keith Peavey

Many of the recent Community Wellness Center SPOTLIGHT articles have focused on older members. When we were asked to be a SPOTLIGHT featured couple, we jumped at the chance to promote membership for our age group.

I have been involved with athletics with wrestling in high school and college years, then coaching varsity wrestling at Morrisville-Eaton in 1990-93. I know the benefits of regular exercise gained by working out each week. These days, my wife Diane and I get to the Wellness Center usually around 6 in the morning. This gives us time to complete our workout, get back home then be at work at Tanner Insurance in Madison by 8:30 a.m., with a sense of accomplishment before we start the business day.

Unlike Keith who was in the insurance business at the start of his career, I started out planning on being an elementary teacher and took my first job at the Chenango Nursery School. My dad was in the insurance business and he teamed up with Keith. I just knew sooner or later they would need help, so I joined them in the insurance business. With two little ones at home, getting to a gym helped with managing my weight and maintaining my stamina.

I started at the original CWC on Eaton Street and they put me on a program. Keith knew his way around a gym but when I started I had no knowledge of the equipment and knew little about what I should be doing for a workout. Having a trainer on site to guide and adjust my program as I got stronger and learned my way around the equipment was what I needed. Now when we workout together, Keith provides motivation to get me to the CWC at 6 in the morning.

Living close by, we can work out six days a week and choose a workout time from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the week. We both know that exercise keeps us healthy and prevents problems down the road. When you think of having unlimited access six days a week, of being able to get guidance from a trainer each day, the CWC makes this an ideal activity for people our age.
