Union representing workers at DFAS and Rome Labs endorses Brindisi for Congress

The American Federation of Government Employees, the union representing workers at two major employers in the Rome area, Defense Finance & Accounting Services and Rome Air Force Research Lab, announced its endorsement of Anthony Brindisi in the race for New York’s 22nd Congressional District.

Brindisi has earned the endorsement of multiple local unions recently.

AFGE is the largest federal employee union in the country, representing 700,000 federal and D.C. government workers in all functions of government. In the 22nd District, it represents more than 960 bargaining unit employees, who primarily work at DFAS and Rome Labs.

“DFAS and Rome Labs have been a source of good-paying jobs for decades,” Brindisi said. “In the Assembly, I worked hard to protect our military installations in Rome so that these sites could continue their important work and power the upstate New York economy. These workers need a strong advocate on their side in Congress who shares their commitment to better healthcare, higher wages, and quality education. I’m proud to have AFGE’s endorsement as I continue to fight for union workers throughout the 22nd District.”

More than 117,000 federal employees live in New York, who serve their communities by caring for veterans, supporting the military and helping Social Security recipients receive benefits accurately and on time. There are about 9,500 active and retired federal employees in the 22nd Congressional District.

“Anthony Brindisi has long been a supporter of DFAS/Rome and our exceptional workforce,” said Edward Abounader, AFGE/DFAS-Rome president. “He has stood with our workers through potential job cuts and DOD reallocation of work, and he continually championed the need to expand and utilize our facility for even greater local employment. He has always been our partner and advocate. We look forward to working with him as our next Congressional Representative.”
