Boonville Black River Canal Museum to have a dedication and grand opening during Best of Boonville
All are welcome to the Boonville Black River Canal Museum on Saturday, June 2, 2018, for the dedication of the Remp-Sawyer Warehouse and the grand opening of the Bardo Blacksmith Shop. The museum will open at 10 a.m., and the ceremonies will follow shortly after.
The Remp-Sawyer Warehouse was made possible by a very generous grant from the Remp-Sawyer Estate. Kenneth V. and Jeannette Remp Sawyer cared deeply for the Boonville Community and its history and were generous with their time and money. The museum is deeply grateful for their generosity.
The Bardo Blacksmith Shop was donated to the museum from the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake. The blacksmith shop was originally located north of the hamlet of Beaver Falls, then it was donated to the Adirondack Museum in 1969. Money for prepping the site for the blacksmith shop and its reconstruction came from a generous grant from the Iroquois Pipeline Company. The museum is, again, deeply grateful to the Iroquois Pipeline Company and the Adirondack Museum for their generous donations.
There are also other events happening at the museum that day. Steve Schleicher from North Country Forge will be demonstrating iron work and blacksmithing from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Starting at 11 a.m. Strawberry Shortcake will be for sale, as well as hot dogs. The Hemlock Shop will be open selling canal memorabilia and books. Tours will be given throughout the day.
Admission to the museum is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted.
Join us for our ceremonies, tours and strawberry shortcake in conjunction with the Best of Boonville.
