Canastota Public Library announces June calendar of events

  • The Library’s Summer Hours Begin on May 29. Hours are as follows: Monday through Thursday: 9am – 8pm; Fridays: 9am – 5pm; Saturdays 9am – 1pm. The Canastota Public Library is closed on Sunday.
  • Maria Seely is the artist of the month for June. Seely’s display is entitled “100 Days of New Layers” and may be viewed in the Lawson Community Room. An Artist’s Reception will be held on June 6 at 7pm for the public to meet the artist. Please stop in anytime during the reception or the month of June to see Seely’s work.
  • On June 4, from 1 – 6pm, the American Red Cross will hold a blood drive at the Canastota Public Library. Help the community by giving blood today. If you give blood, you will get a $5 Amazon card! While walk-ins are welcome, it is suggested that you call 1-800 RED CROSS to register for an appointment.
  • For June, the Canastota Book Chat group will be discussing “Sweet Hereafter” by Russell Banks. The book will be available in the first week of June (at the library) for those who would like to join in on the discussion. The Book Chat meets on June 26 in the Lawson Community Room at 1pm.
  • Lunch & Lit, a second library book group, meets on the third Wednesday of each month at The Three Pines Restaurant. The group meets at 11:30am. On June 20, the group will discuss the book, “The Life We Bury” by Allen Eskens.
  • On Tuesday, June 19 at noon, attend the library’s monthly TED TALK. This month, the talk will be by Joseph Kim who will tell of his life in North Korea and his escape first to China and then to the U.S. He will talk about his new life and his Korean family that he lost. You are invited to bring your own lunch. Coffee and cookies are provided compliments of the library.
  • All-day Summer Reading Program sign-ups–On June 25, the Canastota Public Library will begin accepting sign-ups for all summer programs including grades k – 6 and the teen programs. The sign-ups will take place on the second floor of the library!
  • Puppets with Pizzazz will kick off this year’s Summer Reading Program with the play, “Little Red Riding Hood.” The puppet show will be held in the Children’s Area of the library on Monday, June 25 at 10:30am. All are welcome to this very funny puppet show!
  • The Canastota Library is accepting applications to their Robotics Rocks Program for students, ages 10 – 15. The program will be held on Monday, June 25; Tuesday, June 26; Wednesday, June 27 and Thursday, June 28 from 5 – 7pm. Since the program builds on each day’s participation, it is important that the children are able to attend each day’s sessions. The format will introduce children to Lego Robotics and using a mission based theme, participants will create, build and program robots to complete specific missions. Space is limited and applications are due at the library by June 11.
  • For ADULTS THIS SUMMER…visit us and Paint Rocks! Stop in anytime this summer and create a sensational piece of art on a rock! We will then hide the rocks around town. If you find a rock, bring it to the library to win a prize! A Grand Prize will also be drawn at the end of the Summer Reading Program! Visit us on the first floor of the library to paint your rock anytime between June 24 and August 4!
  • Baby & Me Lapsit will begin the Summer Reading program on Wednesday, June 27 at 10am. They will meet on June 27, July 11, July 18, July 25 and August 1. This program is open to babies up to age 24 months and their caregivers. It’s an excellent way to introduce your child to the library!
  • Pre-K Storytime at the library with Mrs. Liz begins again on Thursday, June 28 at 10am. In this program, students hear read-aloud stories, sing songs, learn finger plays, rhymes and complete a simple craft. This hour-long program also offers a snack to participants. The program will be held on Thursdays from June 28 through August 2.
  • Page Turners, our teen book club, will meet this summer on Wednesdays at 1:30 (June 27, July 11, July 18, July 25 and Aug. 1). The book club is for students in grades 7 and up. It’s a great chance to read some interesting books and discuss them with your friends.
