Madison County Democratic Committee endorses candidates
The Madison County Democratic Committee has endorsed Melissa Stearns, New York State Supreme Court Sixth Judicial District justice candidate, and Sen. David J. Valesky, candidate for the New York State’s 53rd Senate District.
“Both candidates received the overwhelming support of the committee,” said Chairman Mike Oot. “They are dedicated public servants who will represent Madison County well.”
Stearns has been the principal law clerk for Don Cerio, acting Supreme Court justice for the Sixth Judicial District, for the past 10 years. Prior to the Supreme Court, Stearns worked as a prosecutor in the Madison County District Attorney’s Office.
Valesky was first elected to the state Senate in 2004. The 53rd District comprises all of Madison County and parts of Oneida and Onondaga counties, including the majority of the city of Syracuse.
Two candidates for the state 121st Assembly District also spoke to the committee: incumbent Bill Magee, who was first elected to the Assembly in 1990, and Dan Butterman of Oneonta. The committee did not make an endorsement for the Assembly seat.
