24th annual Millers Mills Sundae Run and Ice Cream Social
The Millers Mills Grange, a non-profit organization (www.millersmillsny.com), sponsors a 5k road race every year, and has become considered as the Boilermaker Cool Down event.
The 24th running of the Millers Mills Sundae Run, takes place Sunday, July 15, this year in the small hamlet of Millers Mills. Located in southern Herkimer County and just 30 minutes from Utica, this race derives its cool down designation from the fact that it is held one week after the Boilermaker. Even though our event is a shorter distance it is as rewarding as it is challenging.
Once the participants complete the roller-coaster “Hills of Millers Mills”, they are rewarded with a bowl of free homemade ice cream in either chocolate or vanilla. We have even added a sundae bar to the menu for an added treat. This race is also well knows for the amazing prizes awarded to several age and category brackets, as well as door prizes sponsored by numerous local businesses and supporters.
Our Grange puts on two events each year, an old-fashioned ice harvest in the winter and the July Sundae Run with live music, family-friendly games and activities, artisan market, refreshments and ice cream handmade by the Grange. These events are our main fundraisers and serve to keep the organization alive. The history of the Grange can be found on our website. The Millers Mills Grange has strong agricultural roots and plays a major role in maintaining our hamlet’s history and traditions and the closeness of our community.
