Oneida Rail Trail to host groundbreaking celebration July 16, 2018
The Oneida Rail Trail committee invites the public to join in celebrating the groundbreaking of the Oneida Rail Trail at 2 p.m. July 16.
The event takes place along the trail at Clinch Park (located directly across the street from Oneida City Hall) in downtown Oneida.
The ceremony officially kicks off the construction of a 3.9-mile section of the city of Oneida’s Oneida Rail Trail; the event is free and open to the public.
This section of the ORT is being developed through funding awarded by the NYS DOT Transportation Alternatives Program and will stretch from the Old Erie Canal State Historic Park to Oneida City Center. The work includes resurfacing and enhancing portions of the West Shore Railbed and the New York Central Railbed and repurposing a historic railroad bridge over the stunningly beautiful Cowaselon Creek.
Downtown improvements from this project include complete resurfacing of Oneida Street, an added 10-foot-wide multi-use path, new landscaping, new sidewalks and curbing and a new pedestrian plaza for City Center.
