Utica woman charged with DWI following a property damage accident

State Police in Marcy arrested 42-year-old Salina Stooks of Utica for driving while intoxicated.

On Saturday, July 21, 2018, Trooper Brett Humphreys responded to the scene of a property damage accident on State Route 49 near State Route 365 in the city of Rome.

When troopers arrived, they observed a 2013 Rav4 stuck against the guide rail in the center median.

Stooks was subsequently arrested for DWI and produced a breath sample of 0.17 percent blood alcohol content. She was issued appearance tickets for DWI and several other traffic violations. She is scheduled to appear in Rome City Court July 31, 2018, at 9 a.m.

Newport man arrested for felony aggravated DWI

State Police in Remsen arrested 46-year-old James L. Murphy of Newport for aggravated DWI following a traffic stop on Old State Road in Newport, Herkimer County.

On July 21, 2018, at approximately 9:40 a.m., Murphy was traveling east bound on Old State Road when he was pulled over for traffic violations.

Following an interview with Murphy, he was subsequently arrested for DWI with a recorded BAC of .25 percent and was charged with felony aggravated DWI, failure to keep right and depositing refuse on a roadway.

He was arraigned Newport Town Court and is scheduled to return at 6 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2018.

Little Falls woman charged with aggravated DWI following hit-and-run accident

On July 20, 2018, State Police in Herkimer responded to a hit-and-run accident on State Route 5 in the town of Herkimer.

Investigation revealed that at approximately 7:30 p.m., Charles E. Braun, 62, of Poughkeepsie, was riding his bicycle east on State Route 5 when he was struck by a 2013 Dodge Durango being driven by Nikki L. Cooper.

The Durango did not stop and continued east on State Route 5. Braun was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica by MOVAC, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

The suspect vehicle traveled through the village of Herkimer and was stopped by troopers on State Route 5.

Cooper, 30, of 156 Overlook Road, Little Falls, was found to be operating under the influence of alcohol and driving with her 2-year-old daughter and 4-month-old niece in the vehicle.

Cooper was charged with the following:

  • Reckless endangerment 1st degree (D-felony)
  • Aggravated driving while intoxicated 1st degree (two counts) (E-felony)
  • Leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, (A-misdemeanor)
  • Endangering the welfare of a child (two counts) (A-misdemeanor)

She was arraigned in the town of Little Falls Court and remanded to the Herkimer County Jail.
