Cazenovia Public Library to present lecture on life in World War I training camps

The Cazenovia Public Library will continue its program series, “America During World War I,” with a special presentation by history instructor Tim La Goy. The lecture, titled “Becoming Doughboys: Life in the Training Camps of World War I,” will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. in the Community Room.

While camp life for American soldiers varied greatly, the American military attempted to provide some common experiences to the new recruits. This presentation will use official WWI army manuals (e.g., the army cookbook, the official enlisted men and non-commissioned officers manual, and the manual for engineers) to offer a glimpse into the lives of soldiers-in-training.

La Goy has a Ph.D. and M.A. in American history from The State University of New York at Albany. He is currently an adjunct instructor at Onondaga Community College.

All events at the Cazenovia Public Library are free and open to the public. For more information, call (315) 655-9322 or visit cazenoviapubliclibrary.org.
