Live debate planned between candidates for state Senate

The only live candidates’ debate the Hamilton Forum has been able to schedule for this hotly contested election season takes place at the Colgate Inn between two woman candidates for the state Senate seat currently held by David Valesky.

Valesky lost the Democratic primary to Rachel May and is not campaigning to be elected on the Independence Party line.

The debate will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, in the Green Room of the Colgate Inn. All are welcome and encouraged to arrive well before the start of the debate.

Janet Berl Burman (R, C)) and Rachel May (D, WFP) agreed a few days ago to present their case for representing New York’s 53rd Senate District in Albany to a live audience of voters. Before the start of the debate, both candidates will be in the anteroom to the Green Room to meet and greet members of the audience.

Following their opening statements the candidates take turns answering questions from the audience, the moderator and each other; the debate ends at 6 p.m. after closing statements.

The debate will be moderated by David Crane.

The Hamilton Forum is hosted by the Hamilton Rotary Club as a public service. The Forum committee is chaired by Barbara Albrecht. This debate has been organized by Charlie Naef.
