AARP-trained instructors offer a two-day classroom defensive driver course for potential discounts in car insurance. To register, call Bob Fish at 363-0455.

The OPL reading program for preschoolers and their parents or guardians starts up today and will run through the school year. OPL’s Youth Services Coordinator Megan Gillander will help preschoolers learn and practice social skills in a friendly and educational setting through stories, songs, crafts and play.

Tuesday, 2:00-3:00 p.m.
Bill Skinner, a certified Hatha yoga instructor, conducts a weekly class for seniors in safe and practical yoga postures and exercises for better all-round health. The class is free and open to all seniors.

Tom Henry Presents “Over There: America on the Western Front”
Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
In a World War I Centenary program, historian and lecturer Tom Henry presents “Over There: America on the Western Front,” a show and tell about the American Expeditionary Forces’ role on the Western Front in the last year of World War I. He will also discuss the political and diplomatic turmoil that followed the Armistice of November 11, 1918.

Family Super Saturday: Origami
Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
The whole family, children and adults alike, can learn the basics of origami, the Japanese craft of making sculptures out of paper, and practice their new skill in creating bookmarks.

“Armistice: A Pageant in Voices”
Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
On the centenary of the Armistice that ended the war to end all wars, Oneida Public Library in collaboration with the Oneida Community Mansion House presents on November 11 at 2:00 p.m. in the Big Hall of the Mansion House a readers theater production with music of Armistice: A Pageant in Voices. The play tells the tales of Madison County folk caught up in the American war effort of 1917-18. The cast features Adam Chandler, Ken Drake, Virginia Drake, Tom Murray, soprano Sarah Davies Hasegawa and Melinda Phoenix-Heart at the piano. Admission is a $5.00 per adult donation to the Mansion House.

Monday Movie Matinee: “Miracle on 34th Street”
Monday at 1:00 p.m.
The OPL is showing the season’s perennial favorite, the original 1947 “Miracle on 34th Street,” starring Maureen O’Hara, John Payne, Edmund Gwenn as the mysterious Macy’s Santa Claus and Natalie Wood as the little girl who really believes in him. Refreshments will be served.

Poland: Remnants of the Holocaust
Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
Bill Maxian, a scholar of World War II history, reports in a riveting show-and-tell on his personal journey to Poland in search of the historical sites of the Holocaust in the Warsaw Ghetto and the camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau.

From closets, drawers and boxes, Friends of the Oneida Public Library have selected gently used scarves, belts, pocket books and vintage and contemporary jewelry for sale at low prices. All proceeds benefit the OPL.

Pushing the Limits Book Club: “Rosalind Franklin”
Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
Professor Jen Herzog explores the life and accomplishments of “the Dark Lady of DNA,” Rosalind Franklin, as revealed in the biography by Brenda Maddox. In connection with Franklin’s research, Herzog will also introduce the science of genome modification. Copies of the book can be made available to registered participants.

Children, along with their parents, will enjoy the 2018 animated Disney film “Incredibles 2,” a sequel to the first “Incredibles” about a seemingly ordinary family with mysterious powers.

Oneida Public Library will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday. The library will be open as usual on Saturday, November 24, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

In the 2018 release, “The Catcher Was a Spy,” Paul Rudd switches from comedy to drama and stars as the famous Moe Berg, the pro baseball player who joined the U.S. Office of Strategic Services during World War II and became a spy.

The Oneida Public Library Board of Trustees will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at 7:15 p.m. in the library’s History Room, 220 Broad St. The public is invited to attend. The History Room permits barrier-free access to the physically handicapped.
