Morrisville State Lacrosse logo(Morrisville, NY – April 13, 2014) The Morrisville State College women’s lacrosse team posted a second consecutive victory Sunday afternoon, topping visiting Penn St. Abington by a 18-8 final in Morrisville.

The win lifts Morrisville State to 7-5 overall, 4-1 in conference play, while Abington drops to 1-11, 1-5 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC).

Shelby Wood (Morrisville, N.Y.) led the Morrisville State efforts with five goals, adding two assists while teammate Kayla Dorrance (Cazenovia, N.Y.) added two goals and assisted another four.

Kolleen Brown (Willet, N.Y.) posted a collegiate best three tallies on the day, while five additional teammates posted scores to contribute to the win.

Cailin Dunphy (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) recorded the win between the pipes, making six saves in the first half of action before being relieved by Meagan Mack (Endicott, N.Y.) for the second half, who made five stops.

Avery Winn led Abington with three scores while teammates Chasidy McLaurin and Katelyn Haas each added two in the Nittany Lion efforts.

Sandy Cao played a terrific game in net for Abington, turning away 17, posting the loss.

Morrisville State posted 44 shots to Abington’s 25, and edged the visitors 31 to 27 in the ground ball battle, and in draw controls 14-13.

Prior to the game, seniors Maria Starowicz (Yorkville, N.Y.), Brown, Cassie Edmondson (Oshawa, Ontario) and Jessica Young (Clifton Park, N.Y.) were honored.

Morrisville State returns to the field Wednesday, hosting Utica College at 4 p.m. on Drake Field.
